The Mission
As a Staff Engineer, your goal is to strengthen our Ruby systems by simplifying complexity and improving performance. You will remain deeply hands-on while anchoring complex projects, guiding technical direction, and ensuring our financial data remains fast and precise as we scale toward our next billion transactions.
What You’ll Do
- Architect for Scale: Design and develop backend systems capable of processing billions of transactions across 1000+ integrations.
- Performance Engineering: Refactor and modernize core Ruby systems to improve maintainability and execution speed.
- Technical Leadership: Provide direction across projects, collaborating with product leads to define architecture and priorities.
- Full Ownership: Own the delivery lifecycle: from initial design to production reliability and performance monitoring.
- Raise the Bar: Mentor the team through technical reviews, architectural RFCs, and high-quality documentation.
Your Profile
- Ruby Expert: 8+ years of backend experience, with significant time spent scaling Ruby on Rails applications.
- Senior Leadership: At least 2 years in a Senior or Lead capacity influencing cross-team initiatives.
- Data Driven: A strong understanding of data flows, software design principles, and system bottlenecks.
- Async Native: You thrive in a remote, written-first environment and value deep work over constant meetings.
- Bonus Points: Expertise in tuning PostgreSQL, building data ingestion pipelines, or a background in Fintech/TaxTech.
